INTERNATIONAL TENNIS HALL OF FAME NEWPORT IN NY GALA

New York, NY -- Tennis legends, including John McEnroe, Tracey Austin, Jim Courier and Tony Trabert plus contemporary players, celebrities and dignitaries will be among those attending the premier social event of the US OPEN - the 26th Annual Newport in New York Gala at the Waldorf  Astoria - Friday, September 8, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. The annual International Tennis Hall of Fame dinner will celebrate the sport and honor the 2006 induction class of Patrick Rafter, Gabriela Sabatini and Gianni Clerici.

The International Tennis Hall of Fame will present McEnroe with the first-ever Eugene L. Scott Award, named after the visionary tennis journalist. The award honors an individual who embodies Scott's commitment to communicating honestly and critically about the game, and who has had a significant impact on the tennis world. Scott founded Tennis Week magazine and wrote the most widely read and well-respected column about the sport, "Vantage Point."

A high point of the evening will be the live auction where dozens of unique items and experiences will be offered including: hit session with tennis great Pete Sampras, Tim Mayotte and Stan Smith; tickets to the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Party, Fox's American Idol, 24 and The Grammy Awards; autographed BB King guitar; a Wimbledon Finals Weekend 2007; a one-week stay in a 4-bedroom villa in Karma Bay Jamaica; a trip to the Sony Ericsson Championships in Spain; a VIP weekend at The Tennis Channel Open in Las Vegas; and exclusive rounds of golf at Winged Foot (w/Jim Courier); Maidstone Country Club in East Hampton (includes heli flight); Carnegie Abbey in Newport, RI; Bel Air Country Club in Los Angeles; Brentwood Country Club in Los Angeles (w/Pam Shriver); Canoe Brook in Summit, NJ; Stanwich Club in Greenwich, CT; and the Meadow Brook Club in Jericho, NY (w/Mike Nugent – NY Jets kicker).
