Sun Valley, Idaho
Built in 1936 by Union Pacific Railroad chief Averil Harriman, this historic all-seasons resort lies amid the grassy slopes of South Central Idaho's Bald Mountain. Featuring an Old West rustic-meets-European elegant ambience, the property has been the beloved recreational stomping grounds for celebrities including Lucille Ball, Glen Miller and Ernest Hemingway, among others.

Comprising 18 hard courts, the resort's Tennis Center offers individual and small-group instruction overseen by head pro Mark Frisby. Daily drills and workshops include a free "Instant Tennis for Beginners" clinics and three-hour morning Wilson Tennis Clinics, as well as game-matching services, ladies' days, round robins, and popular Monday evening exhibitions. Mid-July through mid-August, Sun Valley is also the home base for several Nike Junior Tennis Camps and one Nike Adult Camp.
Off the Court
The resort's year-round recreation options include hiking, ice skating, fly fishing, and swimming. The Sun Valley Salon & Day Spa features a complete fitness facility, sauna, and massage- and body treatment-center. Nearby, the Wood River Valley Trail System offers more than 30 miles of paved and off-road routes for mountain-biking enthusiasts of all skill levels. There are two 18-hole Robert Trent Jones-designed golf courses, and the resort staff can arrange guided whitewater rafting, horseback riding, hunting, and paragliding adventure tours.
