|Wesley Chapel, Florida
Against a backdrop of lush Florida countryside, Saddlebrook feels more like a private village than a resort: a 480-acre community of condos, restaurants, boutiques and recreation opportunities surrounded by rolling fairways, lagoons and cypress trees.
The property's two tennis complexes comprise 45 hard, clay, Rebound Ace, red clay, and Wimbledon-style grass courts, some lit for evening play. A full-time staff of pros arrange individual and groups lessons, stroke-of-the-day clinics, game-matching and social mixers for all levels of player. But the jewel among the resort's tennis offerings is its celebrated Harry Hopman Tennis Program, an intense regimen of conditioning drills, demanding workouts, video lectures and analysis, and in-depth technique training.
Off the Court
At the heart of the resort is its Sports Village, home-base for activities including hiking, biking, bass fishing, and swimming in a half-million gallon, 270-foot-long Superpool. At the Fitness Center and Etcheberry Sports Performance Center, guests have access to exercise equipment, aerobics and yoga classes, volleyball and basketball courts, and a sports field; individual fitness evaluations and personal-training resources are also available. Nearby, the Spa at Saddlebrook pampers guests with salon services, facials and body treatments, as well as whirlpools, saunas and steam rooms. In addition, the resort is host to the Arnold Palmer Golf Academy, which provides year-round instruction on two 18-hole courses.
Accommodations and Dining
Most of the property's 790 rooms and one- and two-bedroom condominiums are arranged in 50-unit clusters around the main clubhouse or along the fairways. All guest rooms incorporate a Tropical Bahama design, with rich wood furnishings and warm, earth-toned decor. Among Saddlebrook's several dining destinations are the Cypress Restaurant, which serves Continental cuisine with a Pacific Rim twist. The more casual Dempsey's specializes in steaks, fresh seafood and pasta.
Hopman Tennis Program rates include hotel accommodations, breakfasts, five hours of daily tennis instruction, and full use of the Fitness Center. A la carte tennis packages are also available.
