Mohonk Mountain House
Contact
New Paltz, New York
With its Victorian-meets-Cubist stone towers, gabled rooftops, flagpole-topped spires and balconied facades, this 2,200-acre rustic-luxe resort has been a Hudson Valley recreation refuge for more than a century.

Surrounded by forests, streams, and neatly groomed lawns, the Tennis Center's two red clay and four Har-Tru soft clay courts lie on a plateau overlooking Lake Mohonk. From May through October, a staff of USPTA- or USPTR-certified tennis pros conduct programs for players of all ages and skill levels; the most popular workshops are daily one-hour "special topic" clinics and a complimentary "Meet the Pro Mixer" on Friday afternoons. Also offered are round-robins, stroke clinics, match-making services, and three-day mini-camps, each meant to emphasize playing fundamentals as well as the camaraderie of tennis.

Off the Court
Among the property's recreation offerings are a state-of-the-art fitness center and spa with an indoor swimming pool, outdoor heated mineral pool, yoga and Pilates room, and extensive massage and body-treatment menu. Other activities include horseback riding, a Victorian maze, and 85 miles of scenic hiking trails, one of which leads to Sky Top, the highest point in New York's Wallkill Valley. The resort also hosts frequent theme weekends centered around topics ranging from nature exploration to ballroom dancing.
Accommodations and Dining
The Mohonk Mountain House's 261 rooms are situated in either the 19th century main castle or its four surrounding cottages.
Individually decorated rooms preserve the resort's Victorian heritage with period furnishings, carved-wood accents, and cozy fireplaces. Served in a spacious, pine-accented dining room, three daily feasts consist of classic American fare supplemented by a more health-conscious menu of "Sound Choices." Beer, wine and liquor are available with meals, in guest rooms and in the on-site West Lounge.
