La Quinta Resort & Club
|La Quinta, California
Bordered by flower-filled gardens and a citrus tree-lined Spanish courtyard, this hacienda-style hideaway in the shadow of the Santa Rosa Mountains has been a Palm Desert landmark since its opening in the mid-1920s.
La Quinta's 23-court Tennis Complex -- one of the first in the nation to offer hard, Har-Tru clay and grass courts -- include 10 hard courts lighted for night play. The resort's team of USPTA-certified instructors provides individual and group lessons for all player levels, as well as drills, clinics, match-making and theme tournaments for both weekend-casual and highly committed tennis enthusiasts. In addition, tennis director Mike Casey conducts "Extreme Tennis Makeovers," single-day private workshops incorporating on-the-court stroke, footwork and strategy sessions and comprehensive video analysis
Off the Court
The resort offers a broad menu of signature massages and body treatments in its 23,000-square-foot, indoor-outdoor Spa La Quinta, just adjacent to the Tennis Complex. An attached fitness center is equipped with cardio and weight-training machines, group-exercise facilities, swimming pools and hot tubs; its staff offers individual consultation in health-related topics ranging from nutrition and vitamin analysis to sleep- and sexual-function enhancement. Also on the property are 90 picturesque holes of golf, including the regionally renowned TPC Stadium Course at PGA West.
Accommodations and Dining
La Quinta's 640 rooms and suites, both in the main hacienda-hotel and 20 one- and two-bedroom casitas, are arranged around semi-private gardens, each with a small swimming pool and hot tub. Many rooms have working fireplaces and oversized bath tubs; all are a short walk from the resort's Spanish-style shopping and dining plaza. Of the property's seven restaurants, its signature space is Azur, a fine-dining destination serving French-inspired California cuisine. Also on-site is the Adobe Grill, which specializes in fishbowl-sized margaritas, live mariachi music and Mexican fare, and Twenty 6, a modern American bistro and bar.
One-night tennis packages include double-occupancy accommodations, Adobe Grill breakfast, unlimited court time, a one-hour daily drill, and one can of La Quinta-logo balls. (An additional $20 resort fee is not included.)
