Green Valley Spa & Tennis Resort
|In the heart of southwestern Utah's rugged red-rock country, this new age-chic retreat offers mind-, body-, and spirit-focused programs amid a residential community's condos, shopping plazas and fast-food drive-thrus.
That may seem like an odd dichotomy, but holistic-leaning tennis lovers don't mind at all: Green Valley is also a satellite of Vermont-based Vic Braden Tennis College and offers a thorough curriculum on its 14 outdoor and four indoor hard courts and 13 programmable hitting lanes. Offered in three-day modules, the Braden program consists of five hours per day of technique-training, a combination of small-group instruction, Dartfish video analysis and carefully supervised practice. (Several times a year, Braden himself visits Green Valley to personally run the school.) The resort's own tennis staff organizes non-Braden programs, as well, particularly for its local membership. Adult and junior clinics, drill sessions, and several drop-in social tennis events are offered weekly and can be integrated into a guest's spa regimen.
Off the Court
Green Valley's spa and fitness offerings are meant to cater to all aspects of a guest's well-being, from body to brain to soul. To that end, the resort features a basketball court; indoor driving range and putting greens; fitness classes, free weights and cardio and weight equipment; rock climbing and guided hikes; and two racquetball courts. There are six swimming pools and several hot tubs; an aromatic meditation room and yoga classes; and nutrition, stress-reduction and wellness workshops. And -- perhaps best of all -- the resort offers an extensive menu of massage and other body-pampering treatments.
Accommodations and Dining
Spa guests stay at the property's single-story Coyote Inn, whose casitas and one- and two-bedroom suites overlook two rose-lined swimming-pool courtyards. Standard amenities include in-room Starbucks coffee, popcorn and bottled water, robe and slippers and nightly turndown service. Off-campus accommodations are also available in privately owned condos or in nearby St. George. There are no on-site restaurants, however, a dining room serves three spa-cuisine meals daily for guests enrolled in the full Green Valley program.
