Where to Play
Crandon Park Tennis Center
 |
Outside of tournament dates, the county-owned sports complex that hosts the Sony Ericsson Open is accessible to the general public, offering amateur players an opportunity to test their mettle on the same courts where the pros compete in March of each year. In addition to a full-service clubhouse and pro shop, the facility has 18 Laykold cushioned hard courts, plus two grass courts and six clay courts (four with green American clay and two with red European clay). Courts are open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., with fees charged per person, per hour of play, and reservations accepted in advance by phone. Hard courts cost $3 per adult during daylight hours, or $5 per adult in the evening. Clay and grass courts, which are open during daylight hours only, cost $6 per adult for grass or $10 per adult for clay. The stadium court rents for $12 per person, per hour. The tennis center abuts the championship Crandon Park Golf Course north of the village of Key Biscayne and is accessible from the mainland by car via the Rickenbacker Causeway. |
