 Australian Open
January 15-28, 2007
The first Grand Slam tournament of the year is played in January -- the height of the Aussie summer -- on Rebound Ace courts at the Melbourne Park tennis center near the southeastern corner of the city's central business district. The world's top players travel Down Under for the event, which features men's and women's singles matches, men's, women's and mixed doubles, plus junior, masters and wheelchair competitions. The venue is easily accessible by tram, train or on foot, and tickets go on sale in October for the following January's tournament, with ticket requests accepted by phone, fax, online, or in person at Ticketek outlets in Australia. Whichever way you buy, it's best to start shopping as soon as the tickets go on sale, as reserved arena seating for the most desirable matches sells out very quickly. In 2007, adult prices for single-session reserved seats range from AU$34 to AU$174. Ground passes allowing access to outside courts and to unreserved arena seating range from AU$19 to AU$29, or AU$80 for family passes.
