When to Go
Southern California's generally mild climate makes Los Angeles a good destination pretty much any time of year, though the busy summer tourist season brings big crowds to the beaches, theme parks and other attractions. Summer is also when the city's notorious smog is at its worst -- particularly in inland valleys that trap the heat and bad air -- and in early summer, nighttime fog and low clouds that blow in from the Pacific often linger near the coast until after lunch. Although fierce rainstorms occasionally pound the region from November through March, the period from late fall through early spring can be the most agreeable time to go -- between storms, pleasant temperatures and mostly clear skies prevail.

If you're searching for off-peak bargains at Los Angeles-area hotels, remember that demand is highest at leisure destinations on weekends and in summer, while the city's business hotels frequently offer their best discounts on weekends and during holiday periods.
