Tennis Canada unveiled the official list of players slated to compete in the 2008 Rogers Cup presented by National Bank, which will take place at Uniprix Stadium from July 28 to August 3. This Tier I* tournament on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour will award a total of US$1 340 000 in prize money and bring together some of the world’s best players. Ana Ivanovic (1st), Maria Sharapova (3rd), and Venus Williams (7th), who had already confirmed their participation, will be joined by Jelena Jankovic (2nd) and Russian players Elena Dementieva (5th), Anna Chakvetadze (8th), and Dinara Safina (9th).

Two of the men expected to compete are the winningest players in the men’s game of late – two-time and defending champion Roger Federer and world No. 2 Rafael Nadal. The man chasing those two for a spot at the top of men’s tennis, Novak Djokovic, also will play, as will two-time Cincinnati champ Andy Roddick, 2007 finalist James Blake, 2008 Australian Open finalist Jo-Wildred Tsonga, two-time W&SFG Masters finalist Lleyton Hewitt, and every other star in the men’s game.
