As mentioned, they denied Peer's visa the day before she was scheduled to play afraid that other players would boycott. If I'd been one of the players I would have put my racket down on the court, walked off and paid the fine. Let's see how many of the ATP players support Peer since they play next week. WTA needs a backbone.

Sports and politics should never mix...Politicians should learn from sports that we are all equal but some are better tennis players than others.

Once again, money in tennis wins. The prinxxxl of what is right and wrong is cast away...Tennis can sure seem very "snobby" at times like this...

This is outrageous. I have serious problems with the Israeli government's treatment of the Palestinians but last I checked, Shahar Peer is not her country's Prime minister and is in no way involved in the decision making on matters of war, peace and security. Neither would she have been representing her country. This was not Fed Cup event, after all.....Aside from the gutless response of the WTA I am frankly appalled by the UAE's hypocrisy. My country, the United States, supplies Israel with billions of dollars of military aid and military armament, and an argument can be made that the invasion and occupation of Iraq is illegal under the UN charter and yet I don't recall hearing news of American players being banned from the country. The UAE also trades heavily with the United States which generates tax revenue, so by extension, the UAE is funding Israeli military operations.....What I see happening here is the UAE bowing to the wishes of radicals who care little about sport and perhaps even less about tennis. And then there is the money grubbing WTA that is more concerned with how UAE cash impacts their bottom line than about the players and fans who respect the sport enough to not tarnish it with this sort of nonsense.....$.02 submitted, soapbox dismounted
