Juniors :: Training for Greatness
Sacrifice. Fight. Desire. Certainly these are words to describe professional tennis players ... but the juniors that aspire for greatness live these words every day. Below are some of the juniors Tennis Channel has profiled in their ongoing series "Training for Greatness".
The Eslami Sisters The Eslami sisters are passionately pursuing their dream - to become the first Iranian/American sisters to turn pro and reach the top 10 in the world. They are training 6 hours a day at
IMG Academies' Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy chasing after their goal. The oldest sister is Jade, who is not only an accomplished tennis player but a voracious reader and a fantastic cook. The middle sister is Jasmine, who regularly gives back to her community by working with inner city kids and helping at the Special Olympics. The youngest, Jewel, loves to cross train and is an avid swimmer. All three sisters won the Nate Schulman Masters Series - a group of tournaments sponsored by the Agassi Foundation.
Mary Clayton One of the top ranked 15 year olds in the nation, Mary Clayton has a strong family pedigree. Her oldest sibling Chris plays for Harvard, the second oldest brother Alex is attending Stanford on a full ride scholarship and her older sister is also a nationally ranked junior. She aspires to go to a top notch college or turn pro after her junior career ends. When she's not on the courts she loves to go horseback riding, and lives on a farm with her mom only 15 minutes from
IMG Academies' Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy.
Zach Gilbert Brad Gilbert was at one time the 5th ranked player in the world. His son, Zach, is starting to make his own mark in tennis, as he just finished an accomplished junior career. Next year he will attend U.C. Berkeley and should find plenty of playing time as a freshman in one of the toughest tennis programs in the country. His immediate goals are simple but daunting -- he dreams of winning the NCAA team and singles competition.
