SANTA MONICA, November 5, 2007 —
Tennis Channel and Sony Pictures Television have entered into an exclusive ad sales partnership, it was announced today by Amy Carney, president, advertiser sales, Sony Pictures Television (SPT), and Gary Herman, senior vice president, advertising sales, Tennis Channel.
Under the agreement, effective immediately, SPT will sell Tennis Channel inventory to traditional national television advertisers while the sports and lifestyle network's internal sales team will continue to develop non-traditional opportunities such as large, integrated business development-based sponsorships. Tennis Channel's linear and satellite inventory, managed by SPT, includes national :30 spots and direct response.
"Through both its world-class professional sports and original lifestyle programming, Tennis Channel offers advertisers affluent viewers and broad appeal to both male and female audiences," said Carney. "We’re thrilled to offer their inventory as part of our portfolio, giving advertisers another premium opportunity to reach their target audience."
Tennis Channel is harnessing the strength of SPT's sales force at a time when the network has seen dramatic subscriber growth in recent months, from 10 million to 20 million, with more than 50 million during the network’s Grand Slam coverage. The unique partnership model adds SPT's extensive ad sales experience and reach to an internal ad sales team that continues to capitalize on the greatest concentration of single-sport rights in television, including 49 of the top 50 tournaments in tennis, among them Wimbledon, the French Open, Australian Open, US Open Series and entire Davis Cup championships.
"Our partnership with Sony extends our sales footprint in the national ad sales marketplace and allows Tennis Channel to grow its core base of advertisers while developing a strong roster of endemic and non-traditional accounts," said Herman. "The Sony sales management and team members are a terrific group of professionals - among the best media players in the business - and we’re thrilled to have them represent our network."
In addition to more than 60 tournaments annually and year-round telecasts throughout the season, Tennis Channel's catalog of original series and specials includes player interviews, tournament behind-the-scenes, superstar "days in the life," real-life tennis friendships, tennis vacations, instruction, exclusive documentaries, and health, fitness and travel programming.
Tennis Channel is the latest addition to SPT's growing portfolio of opportunities for advertisers, which range from broadcast and cable television to emerging platforms such as online video and mobile.
