LOS ANGELES, September 24, 2004 —
The Tennis Channel, a 24-hour cable television network devoted to tennis and other racquet sports, will telecast a star-studded pair of semifinal matches in Beijing tomorrow, paving the way for a potential classic championship final this Sunday.
Each of the top four seeds at the WTA Tour’s China Open has advanced to reach the semifinals, ensuring matches that feature three Grand Slam winners, including defending Wimbledon-champion Maria Sharapova (Ranked No. 7, three seed) against newly crowned US Open-champion Svetlana Kuznetsova (No. 9, two seed), and Wimbledon finalist and six-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams (No. 11, top seed) against rising star Vera Zvonareva (No. 10, four seed), who reached the quarterfinals at this year’s French Open.
The network’s coverage begins with the Sharapova-Kuznetsova match Saturday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT. The second semifinal between Williams and Zvonareva immediately follows. The winners will square off in the championship final, also on The Tennis Channel, Sunday, Sept. 26, at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT.
